Case Study – Highlighting a ROCC Star School – Bullimbal School

with No Comments

In this blog, we highlight Bullimbal School, a Special Education School based in Tamworth, New South Wales. We asked them some questions about how they use the ROCC at their School, and here is what they had to say!

About ROCC Star Schools

Throughout 2023, we will be sharing the ROCC’in work some of our ‘ROCC Star Schools’ are doing.

The aim is to learn from each other by hearing about the ways that our community of schools is using the ROCC.

In this post we are sharing the experiences that Bullimbal School has had with the ROCC. A huge thank you to Bullimbal School for sharing this with us all!

About Bullimbal School

Bullimbal School in NSW, Australia, provides quality education for students from Kindergarten to Year 12 with moderate or severe intellectual disabilities, including autism, physical disabilities, mental health, visual or hearing impairments.

Q – How do you use the ROCC to assess, plan and evaluate communication outcomes?

Each year, every student is assessed using the ROCC to identify current goals. We use data to inform collegial discussion and parent or therapist meetings and support students in becoming autonomous communicators.

Q – What do you love about ROCC?

We love the ease of use and the auto generation of easy-read graphs and data displays for our staff and community.

Q – What are your next steps or future plans with ROCC?

Linking goal setting into the data analysis step to ensure that each student has a data-informed goal and that staff have increased capacity in data literacy when developing teaching and learning programs.

Tell us about a highlight or break through that has happened for an individual, a staff member, class or the whole school following your use of the ROCC?

Being able to celebrate successes for all learners and acknowledging growth in autonomy of communication with students, staff and families on a regular basis because the tools we use now recognise small incremental and developmental growth. Being able to celebrate even these small steps is a win for our students and their families!

What’s your top tip for other ROCC users?

It is a great tool to discuss student and staff programs and strategy sharing in classrooms across the school.
